The first leg of the annual club vs. school match took place on Saturday 3rd February. We saw well contested and exciting matches as a strong club team marched into a 11-4 lead in the fixture.

At the top of the order Steve Jenks lost a fiercely contested marathon 2-3 against school favourite David Lau.

Cameron Parry then produced a mature performance to beat school player-coach Myles Harding 3-0 and both Kieran Thomas and Travis Austin were flamboyant in beating their opponents 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.

Fin Aimer, Georgie Lincoln, Billy Rivett, Ali Perkins and Oli Wiser all controlled their matches superbly and came out comfortable winners against enthusiastic, mobile and often unorthodox players. Tom Parry and Ffion Collins played superbly in winning too. They were both put under pressure by tricky opponents but kept their composure and sealed impressive, battling wins.

Elsewhere Jayden Ingram and George Allison fought bravely in losing to much older boys. I am sure these two are looking forward to the chance for revenge in the second leg.

Billy Schur was involved in one of the longest of matches, finally coming through after the momentum seemed to swing one way then the other and back again – he claimed the victory 11-7 in the fifth and final game. A great win, well appreciated by the watching crowd and event director!
